FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHO CAN I REFER TO SPACE?

  • Young people who are in school years 5 – 11 (aged 9 – 16)

  • Young people who live or go to school in Bedford Borough

  • Young people who have experienced domestic abuse (one adult causing harm to another adult), the abuse could be mental, physical, coercive/emotional, sexual or financial. 

WHAT SUPPORT ARE YOU OFFERING?

  • We are running our sessions in "Planets" of up to 10 young people

  • One to one support is currently being offered face to face. 

HOW DO I MAKE A REFERRAL?

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER A REFERRAL IS MADE AND IS THERE A WAITING LIST?

After a referral is processed and approved, a member of staff will contact the family to complete an induction.

This is usually be done over the phone but we can arrange to do this in person if preferred. 

After the induction is completed it will be processed and the family will be contacted with a start date. 

We will make several attempts to contact a family for induction. If no contact can be made after several attemps the referral will be closed and a message will be sent to the family.

We are currently OPEN for new referrals. If we have to temporarily close the referral form we will make it clear on the website.

I HAVE A CHILD WHO IS NINE BUT NOT YET IN YEAR FIVE, SHALL I REFER THEM ANYWAY?

Yes, we will process the referral and the child will be put on our register to start in September. 
Please ensure the parent or guardian is aware their child will not be able to start immediately. 
Please do not refer children who are in school years three and below.

WILL YOU PROVIDE TRANSPORT TO SPACE?

Transport is not something that we are able to offer to all SPACE attendees. We have a limited/restricted transport provision that we are only able to offer to those who most need it (subject to availability). If you believe the child you are referring will require transport please discuss this with the SPACE staff team.
