for young people who have experienced one adult hurting another adult in their home
WHO WE ARE
SPACE is designed specifically for young people who have experienced one adult hurting another adult in their home (often called domestic abuse). It focuses on:
Ensuring young people know they are not the only one to have experienced hurting at home.
Giving time for young people to be themselves, to have fun and to try out new things.
Providing opportunities for young people to work through their experiences if they want to.
To be referred to the service the young people must be aged 9-16 and living or going to school in Bedford Borough.
Back and busy!
It has been a wonderful couple of months getting back to normal! We have been very busy this term; every planet has had the chance to get out on the river with canoe trail and try out some graffiti with Paul. A big thank you to members of Jupiter for applying for the KFC grant to cover this... and of course to KFC themselves :)
We have also been pizza making, hoodie decorating, robot racing and taking part in some very alternative sports!
Also, a big hello to our new Planet NEPTUNE! Who have been spending time with our new staff member and play specialist Jemma!
Please note we are slowly re starting our face to face work... It will look a little different to it used to.
We will keep you informed of all the changes right here.
Our new SPACE youth club 'planets' takes place over a fortnight at various locations in Kempston. There is 8 young people and two or three staff members in each group. At each session there are tutors running workshops and you can choose to join in with activities such as art, music, sport, cooking or science... or you can just hang out with friends.
(CURRENTLY CLOSED DUE TO COVID 19)
Sometimes it is nice to be in a smaller group. We run separate sessions for groups of 6 - 8 young people. This year we are running art, dance, swimming and MPower (a course specifically for young people who have experienced domestic abuse).
Are you struggling with something? Do you want to come to SPACE but don’t feel ready or able to? Do you get angry and don’t know what to do with it? You may need a little time and space. We can come to school, spend time with you and give you the chance to be in control of what you want to do.
Our holiday activities take place on Thursdays in the half term and summer holidays and are a great chance for us to get out and about!
Recently we have been trampolining, rock climbing, canoeing, to escape rooms and horse riding.
Our activity choices and ideas are led by the young people at SPACE. If there is something you really want to do – let us know! We want you to have some great days out with your friends!
