FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHO CAN I REFER TO SPACE?

  • Young people who are in school years 5 – 11 (aged 9 – 16)

  • Young people who live or go to school in Bedford Borough

  • Young people who have experienced domestic abuse (one adult causing harm to another adult), the abuse could be mental, physical, coercive/emotional, sexual or financial.

WHAT SUPPORT ARE YOU OFFERING DURING THE  COVID 19 CRISIS?

  • We have moved our youth club online and are running small group sessions with tutors who specialise in their field.

  • We are running online one to one sessions for young people who need additional support during lockdown.

  • Once a month we are delivering SPACE @ Home kits to all the young people who attend SPACE. This is an opportunity to check in with young people and offer support to the family during lockdown.

  • We are sourcing and providing laptops and computers to families who are otherwise unable to get online.

  • We are providing weekly telephone support to parents.

HOW DO I MAKE A REFERRAL?

In response to an increase in domestic incident reports and to support professionals during the COVID 19 emergency we have created the SPACE: Fast Form. This is a quick and simple referral form which will be used to distribute SPACE @ Home Kits to families that have experienced domestic abuse during lockdown and beyond. On receipt of the Fast Form the primary carer will be contacted to see if they would like to complete the full referral form with a member of the SPACE team. The Fast Form is an online only form and can be found here

You can complete an online SPACE referral form here.

Please complete the form and send it to space@project229.org or SPACE, Project 229, 227-229 Bedford Road, Kempston, Bedford, MK42 8DA.

If you have any questions about the form please contact Lin on 01234 840880.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER A REFERRAL IS MADE AND IS THERE A WAITING LIST?

After a referral is processed and approved a member of staff will contact the family to complete an induction, this is usually be done over the phone but we can arrange to do this in person if preferred.
After the induction is completed it will be processed and the family will be contacted with a start date.
The referral process normally takes two to four weeks to complete.
There is currently no waiting list for SPACE

I HAVE A CHILD WHO IS NINE BUT NOT YET IN YEAR FIVE, SHALL I REFER THEM ANYWAY?

Yes, we will process the referral and the child will be put on our register to start in September.
Please ensure the parent or guardian is aware their child will not be able to start immediately.
Please do not refer children who are in school years three and below.

DO YOU HAVE A LEAFLET I CAN GIVE TO THE FAMILY?

Yes click here

A separate leaflet will be sent to the child when their induction is complete.

WILL YOU PROVIDE TRANSPORT TO SPACE?

Transport is not something that we are able to offer to all SPACE attendees. We have a limited/restricted transport provision that we are only able to offer to those who most need it (subject to availability). If you believe the child you are referring will require transport please discuss this with the SPACE staff team.
